Scene 23 is set on the night of Day 6 (20 Cornmonth), in the study of the Long Tower, after scene 22; Edwin leaves at dawn on Day 7. Check every fact, count, time, object, distance, name, and knowledge state in scene 23 against the accepted scenes and the canon files: e.g. what the pack, the trowels, the robes, the staff, the sample boxes, the grey book, the registers, the oilskin are and where they were; how many times "two weeks" was said on the page today and to whom; whether Sorrel could know each thing she states (she was not in the room for scene 20 or scene 22); whether "first light in six hours" fits; whether the class miss, the box, the rings/chain facts are stated correctly; whether anything names a thing canon forbids naming (a realm, a god, a lifespan guarantee, Edwin's class, "six counties", a weekday name, the college in the shed line). Note that canon files sometimes quote lines from an earlier draft; those quotations are facts about what happened, not text — do not ask for any of them to be reused.

Findings (facts only):

"and the oilskin with Wystow's registers inside it" (line 9, packed into the frame) — conflicts with the established reasoning in scene 19 ("I can read registers at this bench a great deal better than I can read them on a road") and scene 20 ("On a road I'd be reading them off my knee in a barn," said as the rejected alternative), and with scene 21's resolution that he spent the afternoon extracting "the same order... which was all a week would have given him" rather than taking the week to read the five years in full. Nothing on the page has him deciding to carry the physical registers box east after that; the established logic runs the other way — he got what he needed from them at the bench and gave up on reading them further. Call it two weeks at the outside"), and once to Peri in the yard in scene 22 ("I expect to be gone two weeks") — not to Sorrel. No instance of him saying "two weeks" to the Wystow rider appears on the page (his two letters, described in scene 21, don't state a duration, and his exchange with the rider in scene 22 is about the letters, not duration). So the count of times told to her is 2, not 4, and "the rider once" is uncontradicted but uncited. Minimal replacement: change to a count consistent with the visible page — "You've told me two weeks twice today, and the girl once" — preserving the reason (that he's repeated it enough to be worth doubting).

  4. redacted sentence: unpublished prose 006)," a distance-based warrant, where scene 23's Sorrel instead argues from the silent-soil danger and says nothing about "longer than forty miles." This is likely a stale citation left over from the pre-restaging chapter numbering rather than a live contradiction (SCENES.md confirms 19–24 are the current binding scene set); flagging so it isn't mistaken for settled canon — uncontradicted by the current scene list, but the older citation should be checked/updated when edwin.md's citations are next revised.

  5. "The broad one lifted a turf whole... The narrow one read a cut face better than anything he owned and was the only one that fitted inside a sample box" — uncontradicted; matches edwin.md's established trowel descriptions exactly.
