Editing task in redacted. Read draft/book-01/VOICE.md in full first (binding voice memo: no em dashes in body text, plain modern English, prose at rest, endings are cuts not cadences, no negative parallelism, no buttons). Then read draft/book-01/scenes/58-.md, 61-.md, 62-.md, and skim 59, 60, 63 for context. Do not read chapters/, rewrite/, draft/book-01/rejected-act2/, summaries/, plans/book-01/arc-0.md unpublished or their git history.
An independent quality read has found that the 'writing it down' motif (write/wrote/written/book/entry/day book) has hardened into a house verb: roughly sixty instances across 58–66, thirteen in scene 61 unpublished and twelve in scene 62 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose Fix it:
- In 61 and 62, cut the motif by about half. Keep it only where writing is a decision with consequences (an entry that makes an obligation under the Charter's clause; redacted's yes with the hour on it; the 'possibly carried' discipline; Peri writing Edwin's account with nothing under it in 62, which is the scene's point and stays). Delete it where it is a period at the end of a paragraph or a substitute for a reaction. Replace with nothing, or with the plain action or plain speech that was underneath. Do not add new figures, aphorisms or buttons; do not revoice; make the smallest edits that remove the tic.
- No scene among 58–62 may end on somebody writing something. Check each ending; where one does, cut back to the last plain forward-pointing line before it, or end on the speech.
- Scene 58 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose Rewrite the opening so the scene starts with the event: Tess at the dairy door. Keep the date somewhere in the first paragraph, plainly.
- Also check 59's ending ("Edwin watched her not write it") and 62's ("neither of them said anything else until the second gate") and cut or flatten if they are buttons.
Edit the files directly with minimal diffs (one paragraph per line; preserve line structure). Then run
