2. Part 3 — a System claim invented to serve the line. Same passage: "the something did not come with the right hand." Canon's trigger for the nudge going quiet is tiredness, not handedness. "A skill's nudge is hand-specific" is a new and load-bearing System fact. Either drop it (the replacement in 1 keeps the beat by attributing the quiet to effort, which canon already licenses) or take it to system.md as a ruling first. Do not shrink it and keep it.

13. VOICE §2 — the resolving button. "'Good,' said Peri, and was asleep, and this time it was not for his benefit."

18. Part 1 — the line Edwin gives the gatekeeper contradicts itself, and contradicts 85. "I wrote that I'd be on the road on the fourth and at the works that day, and I was on the road on the fourth and I'm at the gate on the sixth, and I'll say so to his lordship in the same words".
In 85 he dictated "I am at your works that day" and "I will not delay again". Here he quotes that promise correctly and then defends only the half of it he kept, which is a defence that does not defend, from a man whose whole position in 85 was that he could not argue with the arithmetic. The verdict is tic, and not because of the phrase: the phrase is good and worth being a refrain. It is the frame that repeats — same run-on and-chain, same "and he said, 'Yes,'", same Peri-doesn't-write coda, two scenes apart in a four-scene window. A repeated line only reads as a motif if someone in the scene notices it. Fix by breaking the exchange out and letting Edwin hear the repetition:

Asked directly: the fact is earned, the shape is not. The scene has spent four hundred words on made things and redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose What fails is the build around it: a three-item negative list ("not the lord, or the works, or the four miles...") whose only job is to delay the last five words, a further four-item "and how... and how... and how many..." ramp on top of it, and "a drain with a name" gesturing at a name the gatekeeper gave in plain words a paragraph ago. That build is a resolving button (VOICE §2) and a counted template. It is also redundant at the level of information: Edwin has already said "Engineers. Forty years of them" out loud on the page. 29. The gatekeeper, asked directly: he does get a shape of his own, and the packs-and-sticks speech is not a device failing. His shape is consistent and legible across all three of his speeches — he answers in the order the house does things, he explains a rule by the furniture rather than by the rule, and he relays what other men said about you along with the fact that they said it civilly. Openings, asked and passed: 93 on "The road went up" is an event, not NAME+verb+TIME+trailer — fine, and it is the scene's engine (a made thing walked, then a made country seen).

The two device lines

The device a second round of comments would be about: the not-writing beat as a closer. Three scenes in four now end a Peri unit on what she did not write or did not say (90's "she did not write it down, because there was nothing in it yet but the shape of a question"; 93's "did not write the next thing, whatever it was"; 92's whole close turns on Edwin not thinking about the three words). Each individually reads as restraint; four scenes running it reads as a generator that has found a way to end a paragraph. It is not repairable by rephrasing any one of them.

What it would take: ration it — one withheld-writing beat per stretch of ten scenes, and only where the reader can name the thing withheld. Everywhere else, either write what she wrote (act three has her doing the writing at 105, 110, 112, 117, so the material is there) or end on the physical act. Finding 20's rewrite is the model: the withholding becomes an exchange, and the motif survives because someone in the scene notices it.
