Part 2 — gestures at meaning, buttons, footnoted jokes

19. 77:9 "It slid. That was the word redacted used at the chain and it was the right word." — narrator awarding marks to his own diction, plus a flash-forward. Cut to: "It slid. That was redacted's word for it afterwards."

Across 71–78: 71 (four), 72 (three, incl. the empty line under the date), 73 (one), 74, 75 ("Write it as nothing" / "Write it down"), 76 (three), 77 (one), 78 (six). It is the book's spine and mostly earns itself, but 78 alone carries the exit box "account", redacted writing three times, the day book "under a heading", and Peri's plan to write. That is the density that turns a spine into a period. With findings 22 and 32 applied, 78 no longer ends on writing and drops to four; that is the fix.

Answers to the specific questions asked

• Are the eleven seconds work or ballad? Work, on the whole — the falling floor, the step back, the missile as the only thing available, the arm put up without a decision. Three things push it toward ballad and all three are cuttable: the pre-announced count (11), "it was the right word" (19), and the tricolon (20).
• 77 ending "and they went up" — not a finding. It is a plain act, and the revised scene rule permits it. The only chime is "Up," said redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose
• Register convergence — redacted holds (imperatives, procedure, no epigram) except the reason in finding 14. redacted holds except finding 28. The narrator is the one that drifts, at 19, 21, 23, 24 and 22.

The device a second round would be about

The verbatim callback — the post's threshing rate, the post's manner of ending, "mostly hinge", "looking at nothing in the corner of her eye", "it came to a figure and redacted said the figure back". These two scenes are the payoff of five earlier ones and they are drawing on them by quotation rather than by fact, which is the same failure mode VOICE §2 names for dialogue. To make it work: each callback either states the fact fresh in this scene's own material, or goes. To remove it: findings 2, 29, 30 and 13.
