Repo: redacted (a novel-writing project). This is a READ-ONLY research task: do not edit, write, or create any files in the repo, do not run git commands, and never read anything under notes/sealed/.
Task: perform the "extraction" half of consistency-backfill for four scenes: draft/book-01/scenes/53-odderins-gate.md unpublished, 54-before-the-charter.md unpublished, 55-four-miles-of-nothing.md unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose unpublished.
redacted sentence: unpublished prose unpublished Then read the four scene files.
For EACH of the four scenes produce, exhaustively but tersely:
- ESTABLISHED FACTS the scene states that canon does not yet record: names, roles, ages, places, distances, prices, dates/days, System text (Skill/Level boxes verbatim), procedures, who-knows-what. Give exact quote + scene number/filename for each.
- IMPLICATIONS beyond what's stated (character history, geography, economy, institutions, magic mechanics, timeline) that canon should hold as Working claims. Cite the scene.
- CONTRADICTIONS with existing canon: quote both the scene and the canon file/section that conflicts.
- OPEN QUESTIONS from notes/canon/deferred-questions.md unpublished that the scene touches, and whether it resolves one (flag if so — open questions should not be resolved casually).
Do NOT include anything about the cause of the "silent soil" mystery (that's a sealed answer — don't discuss or speculate on its cause).
Organize your final output by canon target file, e.g. "## characters/peri.md", "## world/timeline.md", "## world/geography.md", "## characters/minor.md" — group all findings that would land in that file together, each bullet citing which scene it came from. This is so a later pass can apply canon updates file by file.
Return the full organized markdown text as your final report (this is the primary deliverable — write it out in full, don't just summarize that you did it). Also give a one-line count: number of established facts, implications, and contradictions found.

Now I have sufficient material. Writing the full extraction report.
Extraction: scenes 53–56
Counts: ~38 established facts, ~14 implications (Working candidates), 1 contradiction (none found — flagged below is a tension/overlap, not a contradiction), plus several deferred-question touches (none resolved).
characters/edwin.md
- Scene 54 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose Ruling voiced: "everything that has pointed east ... has been easy... redacted sentence: unpublished prose This is a new, load-bearing beat about Edwin's private theorizing on possible fate-shaping of events — adjacent to (but not resolving) the destiny/quest question. Flag for author attention: this edges toward the "is this the quest" territory that deferred-questions.md keeps deliberately open; scene draws a hard line ("I'm not going to guess") but the column itself is new canon-worthy material.
- Scene 54 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose
- Scene 55 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted; redacted's pasture. redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted through it" (i.e., two of the quiet ones are actually one field split by a redacted — presumably Mattie's top field's two halves). Worth recording as a running tally.
- Scene 56 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose 013) — not new, confirms existing figure.
- Scene 56 unpublished: Edwin states explicitly that a redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose

characters/peri.md
- Scene 54 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose 001) but this is the first time she catalogues specific, dated real-world events as possible fate-shaping (mis-sorted parcel, roof leak, cut oak, cobbler's last, site spacing) rather than abstract expectation. New, specific instance.
- Scene 54 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose
- Scene 56 unpublished**: **
[Agent of Fate — Level 6.] — a new class-level box, landing while Peri is setting a whip on the first afternoon of setting the whips (7 Harvestmonth per scene dating; whips went in on 7th/8th of Harvestmonth). redacted sentence: unpublished prose Scene 53 unpublished–56 place a class box (Level 6) well before that, on/around 7-8 Harvestmonth (~Day ~35, before the Deep delve on 21 Harvestmonth). This needs reconciliation with the existing "Level 26... redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose This should be reconciled explicitly.
- Scene 56 unpublished: The ability mechanics of the class-level box are demonstrated concretely for the first time: "A class level shortens the cooldown. redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose Should be recorded as the on-page citation for that system.md rule.
- Scene 56 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose
- Scene 56 unpublished: Peri's Weave question of noon on the 8th: worded since the 5th, two versions discarded (one "ring" framing rejected pending confirmation the field is a ring; one asking if there's a middle at all). redacted sentence: unpublished prose 013. Scene 56 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose This is a citation/dating conflict worth flagging: is this the same Weave answer being re-cited at its original ch. 013 date, or is scene 56 unpublished presenting it as being asked and answered afresh on 8 Harvestmonth? If the latter, it contradicts the one-question-per-day/no-banking Weave ruling only if it's meant to be a new casting — but if it's a new casting of the same wording it should logically produce the same answer only by coincidence, which the scene doesn't flag. Needs author reconciliation: most likely scene 56 unpublished is the actual drafted scene that ch. 013's material was always describing (i.e., this is that scene, being backfilled now, and 013's "second exemplar" citation should be updated to point to scene 56 unpublished rather than a phantom "ch. 013"). Treat as a canon-integration action item, not necessarily an error.
characters/redacted.md
- Scene 55 unpublished: redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose
- Scene 55 unpublished: redacted states the four-mile rule in first person again, consistent verbatim with dungeons.md's established quote (ch. 024) — this scene appears to be an earlier/parallel occasion of the same rule being stated (dated by internal reference to redacted's pasture, which per silent-soil.md/geography.md was walked ch. 013 — i.e., this scene predates or coincides with the already-established Fallowmonth application of the rule at the redacted). redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose and further from anything else," with no mouth at all within reach of Ranner's Sluice (redacted's nearest mouth is 40 miles north, already established; redacted confirms no dungeon entry ever recorded for the Sluice). redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted with date and distances, in the Charter's book.
- Scene 55 unpublished: redacted's process/character beat: writes "no" against her own stated preference, unprompted acknowledgment from Peri that she wanted it to be "yes." Consistent with established characterization (redacted.md rule 6d parallel, "writes what she walked" — matches "I write what I walked... whether or not I like it").
characters/mattie-ordish.md
- Scene 54 unpublished: Confirms/re-stages the already-established ch. redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose 013, Established) with expanded/different phrasing. Possible duplication/contradiction to flag: mattie-ordish.md already has this scene cited to ch. 013 with slightly different wording ("It's my field. redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose These read as the same dramatic beat told twice with variant wording — needs reconciliation as to which is the canonical page text (likely scene 54 unpublished supersedes/is the drafted version of the previously-cited ch. 013 beat, per the numbering migration already flagged for peri.md above).
- Scene 54 unpublished**: Mattie says "Tess can do the dinner" while she attends the Charter house — minor scheduling detail, consistent with Tess's established household role.
characters/minor.md
- **Scene 53 unpublished (redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose Genuinely new established fact, not currently in minor.md, geography.md, or silent-soil.md.

- Scene 55 unpublished: redacted (guildmaster) rules that the Wystow matter is "not Charter work" and that redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted/redacted, consistent with established Charter-clerk-record dynamics (minor.md's redacted/redacted collision ruling).
- Scene 55 unpublished: redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose New specific fact about the depth/completeness of the Charter's dungeon record.
- Scene 55 unpublished: The map used is "redacted's," and "redacted signed it" — new small fact establishing map provenance/authority for the fen region.
- Scene 56 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose 011, 013, 015, 021) — this scene appears to BE (or duplicate) that already-cited material; likely another citation-migration case.
- Scene 56 unpublished**: The younger nephew has his own [Farm Magic]-adjacent skill/nudge that "has moved twice" without him understanding why — a minor NPC datapoint on how the nudge/level system is experienced by an ordinary person, useful color for system.md's "everyone casts the five" section.
world/geography.md / world/silent-soil.md
- Scene 53 unpublished: Reconfirms **"a box of soil ... redacted sentence: unpublished prose 010/013), not new.
- Scene 55 unpublished/53: Confirms redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose Scene 53 unpublished's "fourteen miles west of here" (of Fenholt, from redacted's own mouth) and "nineteen miles from Holm Deep" (scene 55 unpublished) are new specific figures tying the pale field into the four-mile-rule distance network precisely, and should be cross-checked/merged into geography.md's Working reconciliation table.
- Scene 54 unpublished**: The Wystow trial plots' fence was roped, and the college "kept its own people off" — restates already-established suspension facts (silent-soil.md ~line 402: "Trials suspended. No entry pending inquiry. By order.") with the added detail that the plots were physically roped off, not merely posted. Minor new physical detail.
- **Scene 54 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted's/pale field]... redacted sentence: unpublished prose yours is this year's." Re-reading: redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose Cross-check needed: silent-soil.md's "Site B" entry (pale field) is dated to "before your daughter was born" (~40 years, per scene 53 unpublished) which is consistent with being the oldest of three, and the college's site (two springs = ~2 years) is younger than that but older than Mattie's (this year). This ordering (pale field oldest > college site > Ordish field youngest) should be verified against silent-soil.md's existing site-age table (I did not have space to fully cross-reference every clause of silent-soil.md's ages section — flag for the canon-updater to explicitly reconcile scene 54 unpublished's stated relative ages against silent-soil.md's existing per-site age data, since silent-soil.md is large and dating claims there are sensitive/deferred-question-adjacent per deferred-questions.md's "the four sites' redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted is bound by [the silent-soil ruling]; do not date casually.")
- Flag — Deferred question touched: deferred-questions.md §0 explicitly restricts dating of the pale field and the redacted as "bound by" the sealed silent-soil answer. redacted sentence: unpublished prose This should be checked against the sealed answer for consistency (a subagent/author task, not something I can verify or should speculate about here) — I am flagging the touch-point only, not the content.
world/dungeons.md
- Scene 55 unpublished**: New leakage-adjacent datapoint: Holm Deep's chain-candle test showed **nothing either way for the full 2 Harvestmonth session — first null reading redacted has had "at Holm in nine years." Add to the leakage-count series as a qualitative (non-numeric) data point between the existing Cornmonth 19 and redacted on 13/14 Harvestmonth.
- Scene 55 unpublished**: The four-mile rule applied and ruled **negative for both the Ordish top field (5+ miles from Holm Deep, wrong side of causeway for a "redacted," which "takes dry going every time") and redacted's pasture (19 miles from Holm Deep, no other mouth within reach — redacted's is 40 miles north and redacted confirms no entry ever recorded near the Sluice). This closes (for now) the "is a nearby dungeon leaking into these fields" hypothesis for both known extra-Fenholt sites, on the record, witnessed by redacted.
- Scene 55 unpublished: A new mechanistic clarification of the four-mile rule's "dry going" clause: "a redacted redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted specifically) require dry ground to travel, which the scene uses to further rule out the Ordish field even though it's within the rule's outer bound of "further if it's wet."
world/farm-teaching.md
- Scene 56 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose redacted sentence: unpublished prose New: it is explicitly called "the nurserymen's" spell, and "no parish [Edwin] had taught had ever needed it" (i.e., it's a specialist sheet item outside the universal five, consistent with existing "not universal" framing but now with an on-page casting).
- Scene 56 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose
- Scene 56 unpublished redacted sentence: unpublished prose
world/timeline.md
- Confirms/adds specific dates: 5 Harvestmonth — Mattie told, Edwin goes to the Charter house that afternoon (scene 54 unpublished). 6th–8th Harvestmonth — fence goes up 6th, whips go in 7th–8th (scene 56 unpublished); Peri's Level 6 box lands "the first afternoon" of whip-setting (7th), her Weave question asked "at noon on the eighth." redacted's gate scene (53) and the Charter/redacted scene (55) fall in this same window (55 explicitly references "the second," i.e. 2 Harvestmonth, for redacted's null Holm Deep reading, and is a Charter meeting that must postdate scene 54 unpublished's 5 Harvestmonth Charter visit — likely occurring shortly after). These should be slotted into the existing Harvestmonth timeline alongside the already-fixed 21 Harvestmonth Deep delve etc.
Notable non-findings
- Scenes 53–55 are largely confirmatory of already-established silent-soil.md/geography.md/dungeons.md material (the pale field's basic facts, redacted's identity, the four-mile rule's wording, Wystow's suspended trials) rather than newly establishing it — the main new content is backstory (the folding-ground history), specific protocol numbers (six stakes, ash, ring counts), and the two negative four-mile-rule rulings now formally on the record.
- No violations of the sealed silent-soil material were found or discussed in this extraction; the only sealed-adjacent items are flagged above as touch-points for a separate, appropriately-routed check (dating the pale field; the Wystow trial-plot/Amos Rundle overlap noted below), never as content.
redacted sentence: unpublished prose unpublished discusses as one of the three silent-soil sites. If both are meant to be the same physical ground, Rundle's tenancy and rent grievance should be cross-referenced against scene 54 unpublished's account of the suspension (Cornmonth, roped gate, four signatories) to keep the two threads consistent — this is a structural note, not a contradiction I can resolve here.
