A first full draft of book one was finished, while side tools for e-reader syncing and inline commenting got built alongside it.

This was the busiest day of the project by commit count. The morning continued straight out of the previous night’s session, and the whole of book one, all three arcs, got drafted, revised, and assembled into a complete manuscript. The whole draft was set aside as background material two days later and rewritten from scratch. Alongside the drafting, David asked for a redesign of the farming magic system: five foundational spells and a teaching structure, with a rule David corrected by hand when Claude’s first pass framed magic as removing labour rather than improving the return on it. That distinction, that magic should improve the return on labour rather than remove it, stuck as policy for the rest of the project.

Two short side sessions dealt with tooling instead: a reading and commenting tool, and a script to keep David’s Kindle in sync. For the first, David asked for a local web tool for reading and commenting on chapters, styled loosely on Royal Road’s own page, with System messages rendered as blue boxes and scene breaks as visible dividers. For the second, the Kindle would freeze partway through a page turn, and the cause turned out to be a stale index file left over from an earlier sync format. Switching output format and regenerating the index fresh on every sync fixed it. A follow-up tool tracked reading position across edits to the manuscript, so that changing a chapter’s wording wouldn’t lose a reader’s place. David tested it against a real historical edit, and it remapped 394 of the 399 positions exactly.

A late evening session opened a broader review. It ran a language census comparing chapters 1 to 23 against the project’s own house rules on prose and farming vocabulary, and then applied the findings chapter by chapter in a long retrofit. The notes at the foot of each chapter were reworked from scratch into a consistent persona with real farming enthusiasm, grounded only in real-world facts rather than invented lore, after David pushed back on an earlier draft that had invented lore instead.
